For some, making that choice to get support during a difficult time is often one of the hardest part of the whole process, and there’s really only one thing that makes it a tad easier: you’ve got nothing to lose.
Depending on the person, however, support can take many forms. But generally, the tough love approach always works best, and that’s what families are for. Different approaches work for different people, though, but we pulled five reasons you should lean on family when struggling.
They won’t judge you
When someone is going through a tough time because of a misjudgment or mistake, the last thing they want to hear is destructive criticism. It really doesn’t help the situation at all and, in fact, 99% of family members understand that.
They’d just be there for you and won’t inject their values or opinions in the situation unless they ask for them.
They know when to just listen
You probably don’t want to hear anyone jabber on for what seem like an hour about how they went through the same challenge and even almost died of it. You wouldn’t want to hear about it even they were just trying to help.
When someone is struggling, it is really important not to talk about yourself too much, and family member are likely to get that. They won’t make it about themselves, but about you.
They’d take care of you too
If you are going through a difficult time, it becomes hard to take care of yourself. You need support out of the tired and emotional wreck you are at that point.
When things get a bit crazy, family mobilizes, take time off work and provide support. Your family won’t won’t sit around and watch you get run down.
They’re a source of inspiration
Everyone, even the non-religious find non-theistic sources of inspiration to help them reach fulfillment. But during tough times, you’d want to rely on loved ones who represent strength, to help you feeling revitalized.
Their words and actions will make you better equipped to deal with the hardship. Never be ashamed or afraid to lean on family.
