US Announces Fresh Grant Of N241.6M To Support Nigeria’s Power Sector
The United States of America has reiterated her commitment to the development of Nigeria’s power sector with the announcement of a fresh grant of $767,512 (N241.6 million) to support the development of renewable energy in Nigeria. The grant, which was received by Community Energy Enterprises Limited (CESEL), a private Nigerian company, is for the development of solar micro grids in 25 communities across Nigeria.
Inflows Into TSA Rise To N5.2TRN
The federal government has generated a whooping N5.244 trillion through the Treasury Single Account (TSA) since the commencement of the policy in August 2015 till date. One year after its implementation, the TSA policy conceived in 2012, which waited until August 2015 to be implemented, for lack of political will, has also closed 20,000 bank accounts belonging to government ministries, agencies and parastatals (MDAs).
World Bank: Two Out Of Three Persons Live in Slums In Lagos
A new World Bank report has stated that in Lagos, two out of three people live in slums.
The report released on Monday also noted that Africa’s cities had been growing in population, stating that adding the size of another Nigeria to cities in the continent, by 2025, would have a critical role to play in their countries’ economic growth.
Firms Plan Solar Power For Magboro, Brass, 23 Communities
Two firms have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to power 25 communities in Bayelsa, Ondo, Ogun and Osun states with solar energy. A Nigerian firm, Community Energy Social Enterprises Limited, on Tuesday, signed a $767,512 MoU with Renewvia Energy Corporation, an American company, to provide solar energy for some communities on a ‘pay-as-you-go’ basis.
FG Suffers Setbacks In N1.5bn Fraud Charge Against Ex-NSA Aide, Security Consultants
The federal government suffered a major setback in its prosecution of Colonel Nicholas Ashinze and three security consultants in the N1.5billion fraud charge brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on its behalf. The Federal High Court judge in Abuja, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, rejected the major bank documents sought to be tendered by government to establish its case against the five defendants.

THE controversies between Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and Intels Nigeria Limited over estimated $1.3 billion (N403 billion) revenue in port leases and services, appears to be escalating with NPA turning over fresh details to the National Assembly. Intels had alleged that NPA was owing it $840 million and has subsequently pursued the payment petitioning the National Assembly.
Over 2,000 Nigerians Recruited Into Nigerian Airforce Within A Year – COAS
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique yesterday disclosed that not less than 2,000 able bodied Nigerians were recruited into the Nigerian Air Force within the last one year. Sadique who made the declaration before the Senate Committee on Air Force during 2017 budget defence of his command, said the mass recruitment was done in line with the employment generation of the present administration as a way of addressing the problem of unemployment among the Nigerian youth.
NIRSAL, Nigeria Railways Begin Movement Of Grains By Rail
The Nigerian Incentive Based Risk Sharing for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) in collaboration with the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) yesterday inaugurated a unique scheme to move grains from the northern part of the country to markets, industrial zones and ports in the South. In the first stage of the initiative, a consignment of 800 tonnes of soyabeans left Funtua, Katsina State for Apapa port, Lagos after a brief ceremony from where it will be loaded onto ships for exports.
Navy Arrests 17 Vessels, Crew For Maritime Illegalities
The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy (NN) tuesday said the command has over the course of one year arrested 17 vessels and their crew members for different maritime illegalities. The crew and their vessels were arrested for illegalities not limited to conveying of stolen products, patrolling without permit, discrepancy of products, illegal products and piracy.

Disturbed by the high incidence of maternal and child mortality, nine countries – Bangladesh, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda – have committed to halving preventable deaths of pregnant women and newborns in their health facilities within the next five years. Nigeria is next to India on the list of countries with the highest number of maternal and child deaths.
Principal, 7 Others Arraigned For Tampering With BEDC Meters
A vice-principal of a secondary school in Benin City, Mrs. Caroline Akoriegie and a civil society activist, Mr. Joseph Ngbede were among the eight people arraigned at a Federal High Court Benin City last Thursday for allegedly tampering with electric fittings. This, according to a statement from the Head Key Clients Group, Abel Enechaizam, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), is a crime that is punishable under Section 3 (6) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M.17 Laws of Nigeria 2004.
