Details are still scarce for now, but after almost 17 years after its release, Nokia is set to relaunch the 3310 this year. It is thought that the new 3310 will be very similar to the original. Battery life and build quality will be its focus once again, and the handset will be priced in credibly competitively to win over nostalgic former owners for use as second phone.
No Plan To Increase Taxes -FG
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udo Udoma, said the federal government has no plans to increase taxes, rather to get tax avoiders to do the needful. Reacting to a comment by Ben Murray-Bruce, a senator, at the public hearing of the Joint session of the National Assembly on the 2017 Budget, the minister said government was only working to increase its internally generated revenue by broadening its tax base.
U.K. Inflation Rate Rises Less Than Expected
U.K. inflation picked up less than economists forecast in January as clothing-store discounts kept the rate from reaching the Bank of England’s target. The increase in the rate to 1.8 percent from 1.6 percent in December fell short of the 1.9 percent estimated in a Bloomberg survey. The pound weakened and traders pared bets on a Bank of England interest-rate hike by the end of 2017.
Agip, Shell Seek Dismissal Of Forfeiture Order Obtained By EFCC
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Nigeria Agip Exploration have asked the Federal High Court, Abuja, to discharge the order of forfeiture of OPL 245 which it granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice John Tsoho had on Jan. 26, granted an order of interim forfeiture of Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL 245) to the Federal Government pending investigation and prosecution of suspects in the $1.1 billion Malabu Oil scam.
World’s First Flying Car Now On Sale
The first commercial flying car in the world has officially gone on sale this week after car manufacturer PAL-V unveiled the Liberty Pioneer and Liberty Sport. ICPC Recovered N8.7B, 124 Vehicles From Corrupt Officials In 2016
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC) yesterday said it recovered a total of N8.705b and 124 vehicles from corrupt officials in the private and public sectors in 2016. Of the 1,569 petitions received, 70 cases were filed and 11 convictions were secured, while 303 criminal cases were ongoing last year, even as low budgetary allocation prevented the execution of capital projects.
Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority Laws Should Be Amended – MD OGFZ
Amending the principal laws establishing the Nigerian Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, and Oil and Gas Free Zones Authority, OGFZA, to remove the flaws will benefit all Nigerians, managing director of OGFZA, Okon Umana, has said. Speaking in Onne, Rivers State, during an interactive forum with editors on Friday, Mr. Umana said the contention over the ongoing attempt by the National Assembly to amend their foundation Acts were not necessary.
INEC Begins Preparation For 2019 Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission said on Monday that it had started preparations for the 2019 general elections. The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, told the House of Representatives’ Committee on Electoral Matters, in Abuja, that the early preparation was to guard against INEC being behind schedule.
