Keema is a meaty sauce that looks so much like your meat pie filling but you can enjoy this straight up or with rice. It is hearty, spicy and doesn’t take the whole day to cook. Fry the onions until it caramelizes because that’s the base of the other spices!
Mince the onions, garlic, ginger and bell pepper. Set aside. Also, peel and dice the potatoes and chop the tomatoes.
Fry the onions in a little scoop of ghee over medium-high heat stirring frequently until it begins to caramelize. Clear a little space in the pan and add more ghee if necessary. Fry the ginger, garlic and bell pepper for about 2 minutes or until fragrant.
Add the cumin, coriander, cinnamon, turmeric powder and garam masala and stir quickly to coat the other ingredients in the pan. Add a little ghee if necessary.
Add the minced meat and brown thoroughly. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the tomatoes and potatoes. Simmer for about 30 minutes or until potatoes are cooked through, stirring regularly.
Once the potatoes are cooked, adjust seasoning then add the peas and squeeze in the lemon juice.
Cook for few minutes until the peas are tender.
Serve with fresh coriander.
